Why Have My Cheap Ink Cartridges Suddenly Stopped Working in my printer?

Share |

You may well have unknowingly received a software download through the internet from the printer manufacturer, aimed at preventing you from buying anything other than expensive, branded ink cartridges. From the legal standpoint we cannot categorically state this as true fact, but our experience over the last 10 years is that the anecdotal evidence that it does go on is absolutely compelling - overwhelming in fact.

So here's a scenario.... You've had your printer a few years, and you have been using non-genuine ink cartridges. All has been well until suddenly you get red crosses, or an electronic message worded to the effect that alien ink cartridges have been detected and your machine will not work unless you install genuine branded ink cartridges. Scary stuff.

You know those little boxes that come up in the corner of your PC or Laptop monitor - "Updates are ready..." or "updates were recently installed....". Most people have no idea what those updates are or were, and feel somehow comforted by the assumption their computer is bang up-to-date with the latest protection and gizmos. Unfortunately (we believe) not all of those updates are in the best interests of the end-user.

Many of our customers have phoned the likes of Epson and HP when this has happened, and their staff always categorically deny that any such mischief goes on, and furthermore, they suggest you only EVER buy genuine branded goods. Wonder why?

So - how do you overcome this problem? The manufacturer can't (or won't) help... The printer's not playing ball...

THE SOLUTION:

This has worked for the vast majority of our customers who have fallen victim. We cannot offer any cast iron guarantees, but it's worth spending 10-15 minutes of your time - it may well get your printer working again.

1) Check that you have the original disc that came with your printer.
2) Completely un-install the printer software and drivers from your PC/Laptop so it doesn't exist any more.
3) Restart your PC/Laptop.
4) Using the original disc, install the printer as if it were brand new, just out of the box. BUT DO NOT SIGN UP to any offers of registration, automated "upgrades" and the like. If you invite them back, they'll do the same again. Allegedly...
